Laura Smith

My name is Laura, I'm 25 years old. I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Dodger who is 2 years old. I have just completed an Advanced National Diploma in Animal Management at the College of Animal Welfare and for both years I achieved a grade of distinction. I also work at Wood Green the Animals Charity as a Dog Re-homer.

My Dad was a police dog handler, so I have grown up around dogs but Dodger is the first dog I have the pleasure of calling mine. I have been training Dodger since he was a puppy and I now compete with him in Talking Dogs Rally. To date we have earned 1 Outstanding, 4 Ace Awards and our Level 1 title. We have also had the honour of representing rescue Staffordshire Bull Terriers at Crufts 2011.

I joined Canine Communications in order to train Dodger but since then I have moved on to assist Sue and the other trainers in class.

I really enjoy training as it gives me an extra excuse to spend an hour uninterrupted with Dodger improving the bond I have with him.

Equally I enjoy helping other dog owners with their training, that moment when a person sees that they are now able to communicate affectively with their dog but in addition that their dog is enjoying working with them, gives me immense satisfaction.
